Olivier Hamant

Olivier Hamant is a researcher at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) in Lyon, France; Research Associate at the Sainsbury laboratory at the University of Cambridge; and Associate Professor at Kumamoto University. His research focuses on how plants use mechanical forces to sense and channel their own growth, exploring the connections with social evolution. Building on this interdisciplinary work, he is engaged in environmental education projects at the Michel Serres institute. He holds a PhD from the National Institute for Agricultural Research and the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology.
