Maarten Hajer
Maarten Hajer is the Professor of Urban Futures in the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University. From 2008 to 2015, he served as Director-General of PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. Hajer is a member of the UN’s International Resource Panel (IRP), hosted by UNEP, which focuses on strategic issues of resource scarcity, decoupling and resource efficiency. From 1998 to 2015, he was Professor of Public Policy at the University of Amsterdam, and he is an honorary professor at the University of Copenhagen. Hajer is the author of many books, including The Politics of Environmental Discourse – Ecological Modernization and the Policy Process (1995), Authoritative Governance: Policy Making in the Age of Mediatization (2009) and Strong Stories – How the Dutch Reinvent their Planning Practice (2010, editor together with Jantine Grijzen en Susan van‘t Klooster). In 2011, he wrote the essay The Energetic Society: In Search of a Philosophy of Governance for a Clean Economy.
